The next-generation Starlink network will even support medium-resolution video.
Starlink Beta Test for iPhones on T-Mobile Network
Currently, a select number of iPhones on T-Mobile’s network have access to Starlink satellite connectivity as part of a beta test. These users are receiving notifications informing them that they are part of the T-Mobile Starlink beta and can now send text messages via satellite from almost anywhere. The feature is enabled through the iOS 18.3 update, which includes a new toggle switch in iPhone cellular data settings to manage satellite connections.
Initially, this service supports text messaging only, but both SpaceX and T-Mobile have announced plans to expand it to include data connections and voice calls in the future. For now, the service will automatically connect iPhones on T-Mobile to the Starlink network when outside of traditional cellular coverage.
Availability and Future Expansion
At present, the Starlink satellite feature is available exclusively to iPhone users in the U.S. with iPhone 14 models and newer. The beta program is limited in scope, with T-Mobile planning to expand it in February.
